Samantha Valenteen

Physicist

"Coming out of undergrad, I knew that I wanted to do something that addressed climate change,” said Samantha. “After a bit of research, I realized that working in fusion energy could be an awesome way to apply my physics background in a way that could change the world for the better."

Samantha joined Avalanche as an experimentalist on a test cell that characterizes the ion sources used to deliver the deuterium ion beams to the Orbitron. Her undergraduate background is in astrophysics at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in physics from the University of Washington.

Samantha was drawn to Seattle by a love of rainy weather, moss, and seafood. Outside of work, Samantha spends much of her time in the circus communities of the Pacific Northwest, performing in a handful of shows around the Seattle area. Before joining Avalanche, Samantha worked as an automation engineer at a consulting firm, where she set up supervisory control of industrial systems.
